ice pack sheets

Ice pack sheets — also known as ice pack XL, cooling sheets, gel mats, ice mats or flexible gel packs — are thin cooling sheets with multiple gel cells for the chilled shipping of temperature-sensitive products. They are supplied flat and empty; simply immerse them briefly in water until the cells swell, then freeze them at −5 °C to −80 °C. After freezing, the sheets remain flexible and can be torn to size along the perforation — leak-proof and food-safe. Ideal for flat cooling of fish, sushi, meat, charcuterie, meals and pharmaceutical samples. Available directly from stock in multiple sizes and on rolls.

Ice pack sheets: flexible cooling sheets for chilled shipping

Ice pack sheets — also known as ice pack XL, cooling sheets, ice mats, cooling mats or flexible gel packs — are thin sheets with multiple cells, each containing a superabsorbent granulate. They are flexible cooling elements that you activate yourself with water: ideal for the chilled shipping of fish, sushi, meat, charcuterie, meals and medicines. Because the sheets are flat, they cool evenly and fit in flat packaging and letterbox boxes where thick gel packs don't fit.

How do ice pack sheets work?

Each sheet consists of a water-absorbing pouch with superabsorbent granulate. You immerse the sheet in water for 5 to 10 minutes, after which the cells swell into a firm gel mat — a cushioned mat of gel packs. Then you freeze the sheet and it's ready for immediate use. The cooling mat can be frozen from −5 °C and is resistant down to −80 °C, and stays flexible even after freezing, so it conforms to any product.

Advantages of ice pack XL cooling sheets

  • Delivered flat and compact — takes up barely any storage space before activation and saves on transport costs.
  • Tear-off to size via the perforation lines: use exactly the number of cells you need, without wasting gel volume.
  • Flexible after freezing, so ideal for irregularly shaped and flat products.
  • Leak-free and food-safe: the gel is non-toxic and releases no meltwater.
  • A safe and practical alternative to dry ice in air freight, without complex handling or regulations.

Available sizes

Our ice pack sheets are available in several cell formats and on a roll, so there's a suitable sheet for every package:

  • 2 × 3 cells — 140 × 200 mm
  • 3 × 4 cells — 200 × 280 mm
  • 2 × 6 cells — 140 × 400 mm
  • 4 × 6 cells — 280 × 400 mm
  • 4 × 6 cells with perforation per 2 × 3 cells — 280 × 400 mm
  • On a roll with perforation per 2 × 6 cells — 400 mm wide, 140 metres long

Applications

Ice pack sheets are used daily for sushi delivery, charcuterie and deli meats in e-commerce, fish and fish fillets, letterbox parcels, thermal envelopes for pharma samples and chilled meal boxes. Wherever you need to cool flat, evenly and without meltwater, these flexible cooling sheets are the right choice. On request we also supply the sheets with your own printing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use ice pack sheets?
The sheets are supplied flat and empty. First immerse the sheet in water for 5–10 minutes so the cells fill and form a gel mat. Then freeze it (approximately 8–12 hours) and place it flat in the packaging, underneath or on top of the product. Need fewer cells? Tear off part of the sheet along the perforation lines.
How long do they stay cold?
Per cell, they contain less volume than a standard gel pack, which means the cooling time is typically around 8–12 hours. This makes them ideal for same-day and next-day letterbox and parcel shipments.
What sizes are available?
2×3 cells (140×200 mm), 3×4 cells (200×280 mm), 2×6 cells (140×400 mm) and 4×6 cells (280×400 mm). Also available on a perforated roll. Per outer carton of 500 to 2,000 pieces, depending on the size.
To what temperature can I freeze them?
The cooling mat can be frozen from as low as −5 °C and can withstand temperatures down to −80 °C. Even after freezing, the sheet remains flexible and ready for immediate use — suitable for both refrigerated and deep-frozen transport.
Are they leakproof and food-safe?
Yes, provided it is undamaged. The gel is non-toxic and food-safe, making it suitable for shipping fish, meat, meals, and other fresh products.
