Thermal covers / Thermalcovers for air freight and chilled shipping
Thermal covers, also known as thermalcovers, thermal covers or thermal blankets, are flexible insulation covers that protect goods against temperature fluctuations and moisture during transport and storage.
Cooled Solutions produces thermal covers entirely in-house, which means we can switch quickly, deliver custom work and guarantee consistent quality for professional applications within logistics and air freight.
Our thermal covers form a passive thermal barrier and are widely used for the chilled shipping of products on pallets and ULDs (Unit Load Devices). They help protect temperature-sensitive goods against external influences during transport and handling.
Thermal covers are widely used within logistics and air cargo, where temperature control is essential. Think of applications in the pharmaceutical sector, fresh produce, fish and meat on pallets or temperature-sensitive chemicals. In all these situations, thermal cargo covers help maintain product quality and a stable cold chain.
Why choose thermal covers from Cooled Solutions?
- Directly from the manufacturer
- Custom work possible
- Fast delivery times
- Suitable for air freight and logistics
- Reliable protection within the cold chain
How do thermal covers work?
Thermal covers work as a passive insulation layer around a pallet, ULD or load. They do not cool actively, but slow down temperature changes from external influences such as heat, cold and air flows.
External influences — Temperature, sun, wind and moisture affect your load during transport and storage.
Insulating effect — The thermal cover limits heat transfer and protects against rapid temperature changes.
More stable temperature — Products stay within a safe temperature for longer during logistics processes.
What determines the performance of a thermal cover?
- Starting temperature of the load
- Duration of transport and transhipment
- Outside temperature and conditions
- Use of gel packs or ice packs
- How well the cover fits around the pallet or ULD
Important to know
- Thermal covers work passively and do not cool actively
- They slow down temperature change, but do not stop it completely
- Ideal during transhipment, storage and transport without continuous cooling
- Often combined with gel packs for extra temperature control
Standard thermal covers and custom work
Most thermal covers are used in standard sizes for pallets and air freight, such as EURO pallet (120×80 cm) and US pallet (120×100 cm). These are ready to use and fit perfectly with common logistics processes.
For air freight we also supply thermal covers for ULDs such as LD3, LD6 and PMC units. These thermalcovers protect your load against temperature fluctuations during transport and handling.
Do you have a different application? Then thermal covers can also be tailored to specific dimensions, such as roll containers or special loads. Thanks to our own production, we deliver quickly and flexibly, both for standard solutions and custom work within the cold chain.
Applications of thermal covers
Air freight (ULD, LD3 and pallets)
Thermal covers are indispensable within air cargo. During loading and unloading on the apron, large temperature differences often arise. Thermalcovers protect pallets, LD3 containers and ULDs against heat, cold and moisture. This prevents damage to pharmaceutical products, food and electronics and ensures a more stable temperature throughout the entire transport process.
Road transport and last-mile distribution
When no refrigerated lorry is available, thermal covers offer a practical solution. They help keep products at temperature longer in standard transport vehicles. In refrigerated vehicles too, they improve temperature stability with frequent door movements. Ideal for city distribution and short trips where temperature loss is a risk.
Pharmaceutical industry
Within pharmaceutical logistics, temperature control is crucial. Thermal covers protect medicines, vaccines and laboratory samples against temperature fluctuations and condensation. Combined with gel packs, they form a reliable passive solution for transport without active cooling.
Food industry (produce, fish and meat)
For transporting fresh products such as vegetables, fruit, fish and meat, thermal covers are an effective solution to preserve quality and freshness. They reduce temperature fluctuations and help prevent spoilage and moisture problems during transport and storage.
Chemical sector
Many chemical products are sensitive to temperature and moisture. Thermal covers protect raw materials, coatings and liquids against external influences. They are used for transporting drums, IBCs and pallets, both as a standard solution and as temporary protection in the event of active cooling failure.
When do you use thermal covers?
Use thermal covers when:
- active cooling is not possible or too costly
- products must be protected against temperature differences
- shipments go via air freight or long transport chains
- pallets stand outside temporarily (e.g. on the apron)
Advantages of thermal covers
Optimal temperature control: A thermal cover keeps products within the desired temperature range, even in extreme heat or cold. It significantly slows temperature rise or fall, so temperature fluctuations have less impact. Your goods stay at the right temperature longer, which prevents spoilage and quality loss.
Protection against moisture and condensation: Thermocovers protect not only against temperature, but also against moisture. They act as a barrier against rain and high humidity and help prevent condensation on your products.
Durable and reusable: Cooled Solutions supplies high-quality thermal covers made from sturdy, tear-resistant materials. Our covers are reusable and designed for long-term use, which is both sustainable and cost-saving.
Easy to use: Our insulation covers are lightweight, flexible and can be placed within minutes. You can easily slide them over a pallet load or wrap them around a container.
No energy required (passive cooling): Thermal covers offer passive cooling — they consume no power or fuel. Ideal in places where no cooling installation is available.
