PCM Packs — specific temperature range for pharma

PCM stands for Phase Change Material. These are advanced coolants that keep a specific temperature stable over a long period — ideal for pharma shipments that must stay strictly within 2-8°C or 15-25°C.

Difference from gel packs?

Gel packs are ideal for chilled transport (below 0°C), but by freezing they can damage pharma products. PCM packs stay at a specific temperature (e.g. exactly 5°C) throughout the working time — perfect for vaccines and sensitive biologicals.

Pre-conditioning

PCM packs must be conditioned in a specific refrigerator before use, not in the freezer. We supply them with extensive instructions and, on request, validation reports.

Frequently asked questions

When should you use PCM instead of gel packs?
When you need to stay strictly within 2–8°C (vaccines, insulin, biologicals). ice packs can drop below 0°C and damage products. PCM remains at the target temperature.
What temperature ranges?
Standard 2–8°C (refrigerated pharma) and 15–25°C (controlled room temperature). Other temperature ranges available on request.
How long does a PCM pack last?
Depending on insulation and ambient temperature, 48–120 hours. We perform validation tests for your specific setup.
Preconditioning required?
Yes, in a specialized refrigerator at the correct temperature (not a freezer). We include instructions with every shipment.
