A 5 liter EPS box is a compact box of 300 x 200 x 155 mm on the outside and 270 x 170 x 120 mm on the inside, delivered including a matching lid. You use it for small chilled or frozen shipments in which little product goes into the box. Below you find the specifications and the quantities.

If you are looking for a small EPS box, the choice starts with the inner size. The 15 mm wall takes up space on every side, so calculate with 270 x 170 x 120 mm and not with the outer size. The data from the product description:

For extra protection during transport, a matching cardboard master carton is available. It fits closely around the box and gives extra stability. A separate lid is only available on request.
What do you use a small EPS box for?
The product description mentions three applications. In pharmaceutical logistics it concerns small shipments of vaccines, medicines and other temperature-sensitive products. In the food industry it concerns small portions of meat, fish or delicacies. And for chilled transport in general it is a compact solution for smaller shipments.
With a small shipment, every centimeter of inner space counts. A box that is too roomy lets air in, and air cools less well than a filled box. You can read how to determine the size in choosing the right box size.
As coolant you use a gel pack from our ice packs or a cooling element. Place the coolant on top of the product, because cold air sinks. How much you need depends on the product, the travel time and the outside temperature. A worked example is in Shipping with ice packs: what determines the number?.
With or without drain holes
The 5-liter EPS box is available with and without drain holes. A box without drain holes keeps liquid inside, a box with drain holes lets moisture out. Drain holes let melt water run away, for example with fish.
The wall is 15 mm. The thicker the wall, the longer the contents stay cold: a thick-walled box of 40 to 50 mm reaches 24 to 48 hours with gel packs. The 5 liter has the same footprint of 300 x 200 mm as the 4.7 liter, but is lower and has a thinner wall. As a result 360 pieces fit on a pallet instead of 200.
