Container liner 20DV, 40DV, 40HC or 45HC: which size?

Container liner 20DV, 40DV, 40HC or 45HC: which size?

Which container liner you need for a 40HC, 40DV, 20DV or 45HC depends on the type of sea container the cargo is in. The liner is made for one container type and fits it exactly. So you do not choose by cargo or weight, but by the size of the container. You will find all four sizes in the container liner collection, available from stock and made in our own production since 1972.

Below you will find the sizes at a glance, the difference between DV and HC and the steps to make the right choice.

Container liner sizes: 20DV, 40DV, 40HC and 45HC at a glance

We supply the sea container insulation liner in four versions. The dimensions below are given as length x width x height.

TypeLiner sizeFor
20DV589 x 233 x 233 cm20-foot sea containers
40DV1,200 x 233 x 233 cm40-foot DV sea containers
40HC1,200 x 233 x 269 cm40HC sea containers
45HC1,335 x 233 x 269 cm45HC sea containers

All four are made of reflective, aluminum-coated bubble foil. They are easy to install without specialist tools and, when handled with care, suitable for reuse.

On every product page you will find the same specifications: the product name, the dimensions, the material (aluminum-coated bubble foil) and the application, namely insulation of sea containers and container transport.

What is the difference between DV and HC?

The container type determines the size, for example for the sea container insulation liner 20DV or the 40HC.

The width is the same for all four liners: 233 cm. The difference is in the length and the height. The 20DV is 589 cm long, both 40-foot versions are 1,200 cm and the 45HC is 1,335 cm.

DV and HC differ in height. The sea container insulation liner 40DV is 233 cm high, the 40HC is 269 cm high. That is 36 cm more. The 45HC has the same height as the 40HC, but is 135 cm longer.

Each liner is made for one container type and fits it exactly.

Which container liner for a 40HC, 40DV, 20DV or 45HC do you choose?

Determine the container type: 20DV, 40DV, 40HC or 45HC. Then take the matching sea container insulation liner from the table above. If you are unsure between 40DV and 40HC, the height is the difference that counts, 233 cm against 269 cm.

For a 20DV you choose the smallest liner: the sea container insulation liner 20DV of 589 x 233 x 233 cm. It is made for 20-foot sea containers.

For which cargo is a container liner meant?

The liner is made for cargo that is sensitive to heat, cold and moisture during the sea voyage but needs no active cooling. Examples are food, fish and meat, pharmaceutical and biotech shipments, chemicals, wine, oil, chocolate, cosmetics and electronics. The liner limits temperature swings, but it does not actively cool. Cargo that must stay strictly refrigerated belongs in a reefer. The liner protects against heat, cold and moisture, so that the cargo arrives in good condition.

For that choice, read our blog container liner or reefer: when to choose what. For the concept behind the name there is also a blog about container liner or container insulation.

Placing the container liner

For the container liners there is an installation guide of 9 steps with photos. It runs from unrolling the liner on the container floor to zipping up the door cover. No specialist tools are needed.

Frequently asked questions about container liner sizes

Which container liner do I need for a 40-foot container?

That depends on the type. For a 40DV you choose the liner of 1,200 x 233 x 233 cm. For a 40HC you choose the liner of 1,200 x 233 x 269 cm. The length is the same, the height is not.

Is there a container liner for a 45HC?

Yes. The sea container insulation liner 45HC measures 1,335 x 233 x 269 cm and was developed for 45HC sea containers.

Can I use a container liner 40HC in a 40DV container?

We advise against it. The liners are made for the container type stated on the product page. So choose the liner that belongs to your type, so that the size is right.
