Buy cardboard insulated boxes — the sustainable alternative to polystyrene

A cardboard insulated box keeps fresh and frozen products at temperature without polystyrene. Made of 100% recyclable cardboard, paper pulp and honeycomb fibre — a fully sustainable alternative to the EPS or tempex box, with comparable insulation. After use, the box simply goes in the paper recycling. Below you'll find all types and sizes with direct prices.

Combined with the right cooling elements, our cardboard insulated boxes effortlessly bridge 24 to 48 hours of transit — from chilled (2-8 °C) to frozen. They are used daily for the chilled shipping of meat, fish, meal kits, chocolate and medicines.

100% recyclable

Cardboard, paper pulp and honeycomb — after use in the paper recycling. No residual waste, no polystyrene.

Insulation comparable to EPS

A European patent has been obtained for the cardboard-fibre insulation, with a thermal conductivity coefficient of λ = 0.036 W/(m·K) — comparable to polystyrene.

Why cardboard instead of polystyrene?

Polystyrene is made from petroleum, is difficult to recycle and too often ends up in the environment. More and more end customers — and webshops that are judged on sustainability — want to move away from it. A cardboard insulated box solves that: renewable raw material, fully recyclable, and a clean appearance that suits a premium fresh brand.

The difference isn't in the performance but in the waste stream. Where an EPS box has to go to a special collection point, a cardboard insulated box simply goes in the paper recycling. For brands that promote sustainability, that's a visible, marketable difference on the customer's doormat.

Three types, one goal

Which type suits your shipment depends on sturdiness, storage space and ease of use:

  • Eco Coolbox. Sturdy insulation box of pressed paper pulp, ready for immediate use. Ideal if you want to pack quickly without assembly.
  • Insulation box with TempGuard. A corrugated cardboard box with a separate paper insulation lining, delivered flat and space-saving in storage.
  • Honeycomb insulated box. Extra strong honeycomb cardboard structure for those seeking maximum sturdiness and load capacity.

What cardboard insulated boxes are used for

Cardboard insulated boxes are suitable for virtually any chilled or frozen shipment where sustainability and appearance matter:

  • Meal kits and meal prep. Recyclable packaging that suits a sustainable brand story, light to ship.
  • Meat, fish and dairy. Chilled transport of fresh products, combined with gel packs or absorbent pads.
  • Chocolate and patisserie. Protection against heat with a premium, plastic-free appearance.
  • Medicines and pharma. Cold-chain transport in the 2-8 °C range for parties with sustainability goals.

Cardboard insulated box or EPS box?

Both insulate well. The choice is mainly about sustainability versus maximum protection. If you want fully recyclable packaging with a premium appearance, cardboard is the logical choice. If it concerns heavy, wet or extra fragile transport where sturdiness comes first, also take a look at our EPS boxes. Not sure which suits? Frequently asked questions

Are cardboard cooler boxes just as good as polystyrene?
In terms of insulation performance, they are very similar. The cardboard fiber insulation has been granted a European patent and has a thermal conductivity coefficient of λ = 0.036 W/(m·K), comparable to EPS. In combination with the right gel packs, you can cover 24 to 48 hours of transit. The main difference lies in the waste stream: after use, cardboard can simply be disposed of with waste paper.
Can I really dispose of a cardboard cool box with the waste paper?
Yes. The boxes are made from 100% recyclable cardboard, paper pulp, and honeycomb fiber. After use, they can simply be disposed of with waste paper — no separate collection point is required as with EPS foam.
What is the difference between the Eco Coolbox, TempGuard and honeycomb cool box?
The Eco Coolbox is a robust insulated box made from compressed paper pulp, ready for immediate use. The Insulated Box with TempGuard is a corrugated cardboard box with a separate paper insulation liner, supplied flat to save space. The honeycomb cooler box features an extra-strong honeycomb structure for maximum durability. Not sure which to choose? Our specialists will advise you based on your product and shipment.
How long does a cardboard cooler box stay cold?
Combined with the right gel packs, you can usually maintain the required temperature for 24 to 48 hours, from chilled (2-8 °C) to frozen. The actual cooling duration depends on the type of box, the number of gel packs, the ambient temperature, and how full the box is.
What are cardboard insulated boxes used for?
For the chilled or frozen shipment of products such as meat, fish, meal boxes, chocolate, dairy products, and medicines. Webshops and brands that are judged on sustainability in particular choose cardboard for its recyclability and premium, plastic-free appearance.
Do you supply cardboard insulated boxes from stock?
Yes. The standard sizes are available for immediate delivery from our Dutch production. Orders placed before 2:00 PM are usually delivered the next business day. For larger volumes or custom solutions, you can request a quote.
